White Cane Fund

Twice a year the Fair Grove Lions solicit funds directly from the general public at the intersection of Holly Hill and Randolph Street in Thomasville. 100% of the money collected goes directly to the White Cane Fund. The Fund is used to pay for North Carolina Lions Foundation programs and services including helping blind campers attend Camp Dogwood, purchasing eyeglasses and paying for medical expenses through the Matching Fund Program. Statewide, North Carolina Lions contributed $752,862 in 2007-2008, providing the following programs and services: 70 hearing aids; 1,311 white canes; 171,502 recycled pairs of eyeglasses; 14,697 Vision Van screenings; 708 campers attending Camp Dogwood; 13 educational grants to
sighted students of visually impaired parents; 1,163 eye exams through matching funds; 1,717 pairs of eyeglasses purchased through matching funds and 22 miscellaneous requests for assistance met through matching funds.
